Dan, first of all, you would need a commodities account to trade gold options. You can't do this in your stock options trading account. Unfortunately, this has to be a completely separate account. It isn't possible to get an account where you can trade both.

What you describe is called a spread. You haven't specified which option you intend to buy and which you intend to sell, though, so I don't know if this is supposed to be a "bull spread" or a "bear spread".

There's a whole thread about spreads - it's called "Credit my Debut" - look it up - so I won't try to describe how spreads work and various spread strategies. I suggest you go to that thread and read some of the posts to understand spreads.
