Those interested on a play on Japan might look at JEM, an equity linked note that is basically a call on the Nikkei with a strike of 20,000, and then pays a multiple of the increase over 20,000 plus $10. Currently it is under $10, so you have guaranteed principal so long as the issuer (Solly or Merrill, don't have my files here) doesn't go under. In fact you have a positive yield, making the option free. Interesting play.
