John,
Not impossible, just highly unlikely. It is only impossible if nobody ever tries.

Given the context of the societies that MLK and Ghandi lived in, their accomplishments were also highly unlikely. They accomplished tremendously beneficial societal change, literally changing the way the world thinks and acts to some extent. They did this with the simple premise that they could make these changes through loving and peaceful demonstrations. It happened before and could happen again. If more believed in and learned from their example, you could have larger amnd more fundamental change.

The world is changing. world wide communication is vastly different and
infinitely more effective now. One person with the charisma and leadership of a Ghandi or MLK could now conceivably lead and attract a much larger and more influential following. The accomplishments of that person could be on a much larger and grander scale.

Is it likely? Maybe not. Is it impossible? NO, it is not impossible.
