Right, this is just from yesterday's CCUR press release!

By implementing Concurrent's innovative technology, variable-bit-rate encoded data can be supported to deliver improved and consistent video quality, and reduce content storage requirements and costs.

And this from their website:
( ccur.com )

VFS technology enables support of variable bit rate encoded data with up to 40 percent savings in storage requirements.

And the content replication approach you malign is actually a feature (a PRO), not a CON:

Dynamic Content Management

Dynamic content management allows MediaHawk Video Servers to cost-effectively allow any video stream access to any single content title. Traditional video servers limit the number of video streams able to access any single content title to that number of video streams supported by the bandwidth of the storage device. With dynamic content management, MediaHawk Video Servers dynamically replicate content as required to support a larger number of video streams; when the number of video streams requiring access decreases, the replicated content is deleted.

(Careful Granby, you could end up in the same boat as your friend!)

Goodboy: Thanks. I will have to look into variable frame technology. I would be surprised if indeed the storage requirements are way out of line at a time when storage is becoming increasingly important throughout the industry. A smart team would do whatever possible to avoid a feature so detrimental to sales. And the two deals announced this week--deals that surely required detailed research before commitment of substantial funds--are indicative of CCUR's competitive edge.

Care to elaborate on who is going to announce coverage and the initial recommendation. The obvious guess is Soundview. I cant wait either and hope for a significant move as a result.
