AT&T, Sprint Lose Ground
AT&T and Sprint will continue to lose market share to smaller telecom companies through 2000, according to Atlantic ACM, a Boston-based consulting firm. In its new report U.S. Long Distance Services Market: Sizing and Share Analysis 1998-2000, Atlantic ACM said that both tier one companies will watch interexchange service revenue fall from 77.6 percent to 67.5 percent this year. However, lower tier companies that mainly target retail customers, such as GTE Long Distance, SNET America and Qwest, will see a large increase in market share. Atlantic ACM points to mergers such as MCI and WorldCom as changing the telecom landscape. That deal created a retail powerhouse, particularly in the business segment.FWIW-John
