Getting tired of DW's wishy washiness.

First of all, I'm still long in CMGI, and I plan to keep my core holdings for years. But I'm starting to get annoyed with DW's antics. First there was the Lycos deal. DW was on the Lycos board and apparently supported the deal, had even sold Lycos stock cheaper than where it tanked to right after the deal was announced. Then he turns around and scuttles the deal, appointing himself as the company's savior. Since then lycos' stock has continued to more or less languish; no significant new suitors have been mentioned, not even any decent rumors (Walmart? Yeah right). When asked about lycos at yesterday's cc DW stuttered and stammered and pretty much indicated (to me), 'nice company, they're on their own.'

2 quarters ago, he pointblank stated at the cc that there would be no split. The stock tanked the next day. Days later a split is announced. A cunning way to 'kill the shorts', or a desperate reaction to the market? At that cc he was also asked about letting shareholders in on IPOs and said that they had thought of it but that the tax consequences made it difficult.

Now at this cc, knowing that earnings estimates would be missed he does another about-face and throws us the IPO bone.

DW may be a visionary, but I'm beginning to wonder about his ability to understand and work with Wall Street. The amount of volatility with this stock may make some daytraders rich, but will keep away institutions and other investors.

There are competitors out there. Talk about iCast becoming the biggest media company in the world sounded nice, but there are other media companies out there, with lot's of money too. Some may be waiting for internet bandwidth to reach the masses before diving in with huge investments. Will they need CMGI? I really don't know.

I'm beginning to wonder if DW is a bit ahead of his time. If he's too far ahead the vision may lose it's luster and all his big talk will start to ring hollow, as it is starting to do with me.

To the HECTORS!!! of the thread ..... All the catterwailing boils down to two points -- either you think that earnings are important to CMGI value, or you don't. If you think earnings matter at this stage of CMGI's development you really don't have much reason to be in the stock so you should quit whining and bail. And based on today's action so far it appears that many of you are. I say "Godspeed" and I wish I had the cash to pick up the cheap shares you are leaving behind.
