<Intel actually has to worry about a competing X86 processor!>

Better than AMD actually having to worry about making profits in the first place. (Two companies that Intel is investing in is going IPO, including Red Hat Linux. Don't you wish AMD could do the same?)

And like I said before, if worse comes to worse, Intel always has room to drive the price down on the high end and just weather the storm until Merced and Willamette arrive onto the scene.

Finally, not many people realize this, but Intel has a very long-term future planned out. The AMD supporters will be pointing at the 0.18 micron copper process coming up in 2000 (give or take a few manufacturing slip-ups), but Intel already has ambitious plans for 0.13 micron technology starting up in two to three years, not to mention a copper process of its own. And let's not forget about the 300mm wafer technology.

As of now, though, let AMD pat themselves on the back. They deserve it.
