Thanks Mark, but I was weak at best. I whimped out in my opinion. I should have followed up on some of those responses like:Walter:I have contacted Celestial and they said their web site will be up after they finish their EPAC software. They said that will take a few months. Does that seem reasonable to you? Eastman: Yes. I should asked if she knew how many months they meant by a few months. Three…six? And on this response:Walter: When is Lucent going to let the general public see their newly designed portable digital music player? Eastman: When it is finished… when the engineering designs are finished. I whimped out big time on this one. I was thinking. well when will the designs be finished? But when she answered that question the tone of her voice changed. I assumed that she was warning me to not press that issue. So, I whimped out and moved on to the next question. I forgot to ask the question about whether or not a different watermarking technology would affect the Christmas Holiday delivery date? I guess I was just nervous. I only had 10 minutes to ask the questions. Even thought I seemed to be the only person on the thread interested in the possibilities that Lucent and Rio could be working together, I kept an open mind until I heard her response to this question:Walter: In a recent internet interview the President of the Rio Division of Diamond Multimedia Systems stated that Lucent is working with Rio and Intertrust? Eastman: What! Where did you find this?! What is the web site address?! Walter: So, is it true? Eastman: I'll have to answer that with a… no comment. You see, the way Watkins pronounced Lucent it sounded like Lushent. I figured that was just the way rich people pronounce Lucent, but I wasn't sure until she responded to the question. I was hoping to get an email response back from Diamond MultiMedia Systems, but no such luck. Now, this one was full of potential and I just moved along like the rookie that I am:Walter:What is so special about little e.Digital that big Lucent decided to work with them? Eastman: I have worked with e.Digital on a different project that involved Lucent, IBM, and Intel. I was impressed with e.Digital's responsiveness. We developed a good working relationship. When Lucent decided to work on this project e.Digital seemed to be the natural choice. They were already trying to get into the music side of the business. The President of e.Digital owns two other technology companies and engineers at our Bell Labs know him well. I have been working with e.Digital for a… two years now. Think about it. I should have asked: What project(s) did e.Digital and Lucent work on with IBM and Intel? Is this project completed? Did this project go to market? If no, when do you expect it to go to market? What is the name of this project? What is the name of the product? Based on what you know about e.Digital would you invest in e.Digital? Does Lucent own any of e.Digital? Do you own e.Digital stock? (OK, maybe that one would have been out of line.) My 10 minutes was running low and I still wanted to know more about why they picked little e.Digital and I choked again:Walter: Did it have anything to do with this thing they call MicroOS or did you choose them (e.Digital) for their engineer skills? Eastman: Hmm… MicroOS is a good thing , but the whole package is why we chose e.Digital. I should have asked what is it about MicroOS that makes it “a good thing?” When you say the whole package, what does that include? I should have also asked, Is Lucent working with Sony on a digital player? Oh well, I'll get over it… eventually.Message 10082988
