At least you remember where this started! I am always fascinated with the maze we wander following a simple question though I frequently can't find my way out- ooops--out-- umm- of it.

Fowler may not be God, but he is a lesser deity, maybe (ohno!!!) an angel (after this he may be a fallen one)...or at least an Apostle.

Thinking about it--maybe he is only saying what you said: that by common usage of 'than me', the phrase is gaining acceptance among the masses and that it has some legitimacy, or at least an excuse, by calling itself prepositional.
Though never here, of course.

(By the way- I never use emoticons- but almost everything I write has a g after it, ok? Just in case someone isn't sure. Always assume I am not serious about anything.)
