Greg....methanol is not the greatest to handle. Whats caught my attention is "gas to liquids" or F-T diesel. Its produced from natural gas...sulphur free...and may have twice the hydrogen content as methanol. It can also be used in diesel engines.
Syntroleum (SYNM)..is working with DaimlerChrysler and showing Dodge trucks that run on F-T diesel. Shell has mentioned in news releases about new fuels for fuel cells. They also happen to have their own technology for "gas to liquids". Exxon, BPamoco have the ability also. Chevron and Sasol have announced a 20000 to 30000 bbl/day plant in Nigeria. This F-T oil is also a superior base for lubricating oil. I'm not sure how much methanol the major oil firms produce but what ever becomes the standard you can be sure they will be involved....raisin
