BTW - Would like to hear posters opinion about the crash on the E-Bay site. It is powered by SUNW hardware and software.

And the EBAY article on CBS Marketwatch site has a "We're the dot in dot-com" Sun banner ad directly over it! Ooops!

My reaction is that these things happen, but that this is something that can be handled right or wrong PR-wise. I hope the Sun and EBAY PR people are very public and proactive about explaining exactly what went wrong and how it's guaranteed not to happen again. The effect will be transitory if it's explained to the public exhaustively. The main potential for damage is in denial or attempts at spin.

JMHO.

A spokesman for Sun Microsystems (SUNW: news, msgs) said a
problem with the tech firm's software contributed to the problem and that a service team was working with EBay to restore service.

"We know what the probem is and we're fixing it," said Doug VanAman,
director of public relations. "We're investigating it further."

I hope more info about this is available... These stories can be misleading sometimes... And leave out other important things.. Like maybe Ebay had misconfigured the software... And Sun helped figure out Ebay's mistake... I have no idea what happened, but to say Sunw is solely at fault at this point is not a good idea...
