Anyone who steps into a grammar thread probably has a specific question or already feels somewhat comfortable with his own command of the language. Now I will admit that when here I am completely intimidated and cowed and must constantly remind myself that I'm an ok person even though I have the wrong edition of Fowler. Most people really wouldn't want to spend an hour reading about the proper use of 'than'. This is not something that will keep them awake at night ("Oh, my God, Helen, I believe I used "than" incorrectly tonight at the bar when I told that joke about the priest and the callgirl.." "Try not to fret, Henry. You know that there is some question about the employment of it as a preposition. You can explain tomorrow night when you see the guys at bowling.") Free beer will only carry us so far. Now the free sex is another thing altogether. Not many people would read last night's postings and say, "Oh what a fun place!" as CarolynF did. And mean it.
