RHAT will be a hot IPO, no doubt. Being the first major Linux-oriented company to go public will definitely propell the media and hype which leads to a successful offering. The question is, where will the stock be in 3 years? Don't forget, they are selling stuff that is virtually free to download or only cost a few bucks to buy (CD clones). If you had look at the online auction sites, many people bid as well auction clone CDs for few dollars (legal to do), which means that Redhat and other Linux vendors don't make a penny from the people who bought cheap CD. One day, Linux will be a household word and everybody knows where to buy cheap OS from or where to download.
With the installation software getting more sophisticated, people aren't tied to Redhat's tech support to install.

Of course Redhat's execs aren't dumb enough to not understand consumers' buying habits. They must have something in their sleeve to pull this off.

I'm going to beg a favor here, if you all don't mind. It seems that the text of all posts on the other RHAT thread are non-existent for me. The initial 'box' creating the thread is there, and, when I scroll down, I see the list of replies with the first line displayed, but when I click on a response, an empty box pops up. SI Bob can't understand it either. So, my favor: did I miss out on something from that thread which does not appear on this one? Thank you so much,
Carolyn
