TC,

Breeding self righteousness? It is a possibility. but that is also somewhat meaningless. It is possible to become self righteous and apathetic, or self-righteously indignant, or even have a self righteous motive that is ultimately built upon a nefarious foundation.

It is also just as easy to strive for higher and loftier goals and not be self righteous. Ultimately what you are saying is that one could fail and wind up with negative results. You could also succeed, or fall into myriad places in between. I would always rather try for the highest goal and settle than never try. That is only my opinion however.

As for taking the Bible literally, I don't. But I dont believe that it does have to be taken literally to be a moral guidebook. People are quite free to take what they want from it, and leave the rest.

Most of your post is just a grocery list of the possibility of what bad things could happen in certain circumstances. It is just as easy and just as relevant to post only the good things. Reality is in between.

I prefer to strive for the loftier aspects. Naturally, you are free to strive for whatever you wish.
