The first question to ask is what types of photos do you intend to make and how do you intend to display them. Obviously if most will be displayed on the typical computer screen, a lower resolution, even less than 1m pixels, is sufficient. If you intend to make prints up to about 4 x 6 inches, you should be looking for cameras such as the Nikon Coolpix 700, available around $500. Frankly, I doubt that anything less in quality is a good investment. I also doubt that anyone who makes fewer than 100 photos a year (the equivalent of four 24-exposure 35mm cartridges) should even consider digital, unless there is a need for business documentation (insurance, etc.). If a person is likely to take 400 or more photos a year (easy if you take vacations or have a growing family and grand children), you're talking about some 20 rolls of 35mm film at a processing charge of roughly $300 for the film and prints. At that rate, it doesn't take much to justify digital.

Aus and all -

Thanks to Aus I now have a Cassio E-15 and frankly I wonder how I ever managed to get on without it in the past. Of course it has a CF and I have now decided what I'm going to do with the extra 40Mbt that I don't really need but since I insisted on having a SanDisk I now had to find a use for it and I've hit on the idea of having some MP3 stuff so I can listen to music as well.

The main point is that I am beginnig to believe that the day of the PC or even notebook is rapidly drawing to a close and that PH devices are going to get better and better facilities and capabilities including of course phones and wireless internet. All of these devices will need loads of memory and my guess is that a good portion of that is going to be CF or even MMC.

Anyway Aus you have done a fantastic job on the camera front and I'm wondering if we could all keep posting here any new PH's or sites that relate to PHs or even CE ( maybe even Palm if it uses SanDisks).

Best regards,

L

Aus and Art, I picked up the Kodak DC210plus at Buy.com for $359--part of my hands-on DD. I was tempted to wait for the Toshiba PD-M1 (model number might be slightly off), which has a $315 price-point and was given a high rating by PC Magazine. But I would like a camera now and am interested to see CF in action. I don't really think I'll do printouts--monitor res. should do, so hopefully this camera's performance will be good enough. Thanks again for the recommendations.
