Here's my take on tonight's Friday news blurbs... 1. Barrett's comments are not even newsworthy. Of course he will say that Intel has rooms full of contingency plans in case RDRAM does not pan out. He would say this even if not true (but I bet it is). This does not mean in any way, shape or form that he and Intel are not backing Rambus as strongly as before...In fact.... 2. The article on the staggered 820 rollout is fascinating. If this is not really a technology issue, but is instead a marketing issue, then you got to respect the raw power of Intel! They are basically going to tell the world that you will buy what we say, when we say, or play some other game (and by the way, we are pounding on VIA, one other game). Rambus is just going along for the ride. Wow. I have to think about this a little....but I can see why there could be resentment against Intel and, indirectly, Rambus on a move like this. 3. IS the 820 THAT important? I don't know, but it sure sounds like it. I would have thought that the Christmas season was not that critical for the high-end boxes? Am I wrong?

Mile, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this really old news that's just being resurfaced again? I thought I had posted an article that stated Intel had PC133 (possible) support plans. I'm not going to go back and research all the articles, maybe someone else would like to. I also recently posted the reasons for the Intel VIA lawsuit. I don't think that this news had any significant effect on the price today. Even though it came out after hours, news of this sort usually is known during hours, and I say it was known weeks ago. I also don't believe it will have any effect mon or tues. If there is down pressure it won't be because of this. JMHO. I was more rattled by HAL (and what technology they're working on)... Today's News and Rumors June 11 - New supercomputer technology claims to be fastest yet per PCWorld . Star Bridge Systems says its new supercomputer, HAL-300GrW1, is a "hypercomputer" that is said to be 60,000 times as fast as a 350-MHz Pentium, and many times as fast as IBM's supercomputer Pacific Blue (an exact comparison could not be made). The new CPU is a field programmable gate array that is a "massively parallel, ultratightly coupled, asymmetrical multiprocessor." The company also claims that they could build a $1000 PC based on the technology that would be three times as fast as any other PC. <Step on up to the plate.> pcworld.com
