LOL this is the only thing I understood " the first-to-market, Java-specific microprocessor." That sounded good enough to me. Sounds impressive. Its like when mining companies release drill results, people not in the know ask "so that's good news right? Stock is going to go up?" ROTFL

Jim, your RTOS is the program running your PC ( or anything elese) . There are a number of RTOS's the most famous is DOS- disk operating system. It is one level up from the CMOS in a PC , which is resident in the manufacture so the thing has some brains when you switch it on.
Another 'OS' would be unix. JAVA is a sotware program which runs on your windows software, which in turn runs from dos, which in turn runs from your CMOS. I think these guys are saying they have developed a version of JAVA to run at a lower level ( and hence need less memory) which makes it ideal to run on a pager, giving it graphics capability.

From their web site
"Examples of devices that will greatly benefit from monitor and control via standard Internet protocols include laser printers, network routers, factory floor machinery, security systems, even household appliances such as REFRIDGERATORS. "

Hey, Jim you will now be able to check your stocks while getting a sandwich ;-)

this device will act like a stand alone processor that requires none of the overhead suport of a pc or other large system. it allows the device that has it init to perform decision makeing acivities that are outside the realm of traditional dsp devices (digital signal processors) such as those made by texas instrumants. the java chip can be used for suce things as making the perfect piece of toast based on how brown it is not how long it cooked, or keeping lighting at a constant level in a room based on ever chanbing outside lighting . basicaly it alows for both math and fuzzy logical systems to run in a very small space on a stand alone basis. there very easy to program and very cheap to make.
