In case nobody realizes it, inclusion in the Russell 3000 would be very good news for short-term price appreciation. The Russell 3000 is divided into the Russell 1000 (large cap) and Russell 2000 (small cap). VLNC would go into the Russell 2000.

Several mutual funds and institutions use the Russell 2000 as the basis for small cap index funds. Therefore, inclusion in this index would result in considerable institutional buying of the stock.

The preliminary list was released at 6pm yesterday. The final list is not completed until early July. Often speculators buy stocks selected for inclusion in the Russell 2000 in anticipation of price increases when the final index is completed, when the index fund managers buy in.
