James,
Hi!!!

RE: How come no one has mentioned the vote on the board of directors? Is it possible to do a "write-in"? There might be some unemployed executives from another PC company that could use the small income from being on a board to help pay the utilities, feed and cloth the kids, etc.

Hey, I don't want them at DELL... :o) But, I do believe that Michael's words at the end of the fourth quarter: " WE WILL TAKE PAIN TO CAUSE MUCH PAIN"...is the situation we find ourselves in now... More importantly I believe one of DELL's major strategies of 99 was to further cause consolidation in the industry....End of year...Tom Meredith talking of the third and fourth quarter...Michael told us last year that the business would really accelerate towards the second half of 99....The enterprise markets and Y2K situation amongst the many strong reasons...CPQ is IMO wounded...badly....Michael telling us "HUGE"...this is a word he has never used in my recollection...hell, I know what "GOOD" means...it means great!! And, "GREAT" means awesome!! So you go figure what "HUGE" means.....CPQ surely couldn't compete with the direct model...so, they desperately went direct...Michael told us: WE FIND THIS AMUSING....It is my belief DELL targeted them once they found vulnerability in attempting to sell to both retailers and direct...It was an opportunity for DELL they couldn't refuse...DELL went after them at every bend or opening they could...We lost on the overall earnings...but, the overall weakening of CPQ will greatly reward the future stockholders of DELL...Example..Kevin Rollins told us this week they aren't seeing the usual price wars of past...Sounds to me that CPQ is trying to make money....Meanwhile I believe DELL is having their way in the corporate world...Stealing market share every day from IBM, HWP, and CPQ....

Best, Kemble.
