Dear Chief and..... I would like to draw your attention to the attached comment that was published by a sp spokesman on the Winspear Resources Ltd. investor line. In the lengthy negotiations to secure and preserve treaty obligations and more pressing modern concerns such as respecting your ancestral land you have been accused of being "native mafia" and "extortionist" and that your system of goverment is not "rule by law". Rather than see orderly development of your natural resources he accuses you of driving industry to SE Asia and other foreign places where labour and resources can be bought cheaply. He says your actions are turning the NWT "into another third-world back water". I believe the main thrust of his argument is that your actions caused his stock portfolio to shrink by up to 20% prior to the weekend and he can't enjoy golf or gardening when that happens. He fails to take into account the consensus of the people that inhabit your lands is "rule by law", your law, as opposed to the rule of a big city stock broker who cools his heels in a palatial office while your people lead a more meaningful existence caring for the land as they always have. DeBeers Diamonds used to call all diamond products sold outside their cartel as the "illicit diamond trade" He has painted First Nations with the same brush by saying "they kept coming back for more and more and more...." He has accused your people of using "Soviet Style" goverment tactics and that the economy in the NWT will continue to decrease until such time as he and his ilk can effect some meaningful changes.
