All, as a post script to my post # 11114 (linked above), re: the BLS passive optical network (PON) deployment...

...and guess what? The ILECs, unlike the ATHM Consortium, would have to allow ATHM access in accordance with their franchise mandates... along with all other takers in the common carriage model.

And there would be plenty of room for all. Think about that one. And think of the implications that would ensue if they didn't follow this approach, in some form of judicious and strategic fashion in order to extend their limited, although by no means paltry, reach- [and their current capacity-, which would actually be paltry, in comparison] capabilities.

A tad off topic, but I was just reviewing some earlier posts and came across this one which I thought was relevant today, in light of the recent mergers.

The more I view these situations (see the uplinked post #11114), the more I see the removal at some point in time of the monastic boundaries that each of these outfits has tried to erect. If not at the physical layer, then certainly at the upper layers. But even here there remain impediments due to some architectural lock-ins. They are sometimes subtle ones, but they exist, nonetheless.
