Hear, hear!
or
I'm with you here

Ye gods, I'm going Graystone!

Actually, this post is more for scientifically-oriented folks like Chuzzlewit.

I was struck, in the discussion we had some time back about literature, that Chuzzlewit -- who really loves good literature, art, and music -- seemed to feel that (pace Keats) he had to rank "Art" below "Science," since its "Truths" could not be proved.

Just think how much poorer life would be if we had to exclude from it everything that could not be "proved"!!

Joan

P.S. Chuzzlewit, I hope I misunderstood you!

There had certainly better be things beyond our rules of logic, because Whitehead and Russell were unable to that rules of logic are complete. For instance, one cannot deduce from a decent set of aximos that Spades are Superior to Clubs or are trumps in Bridge or Whist (see Rape of the Lock) and it matters. At least if you play bridge.
Nothing "scientific" can be proved, only disproved.

Don't know if this is using a rule of logic or not, but I know love exists because I love and experience love. I can observe that others experience it. Though you are right, one doesn't necessarily depend upon logic to know the things that one knows by experience. In the same way, we can say that we believe something we can call God exists because we someetimes experience feelings of contact/relationship with the divine. I have had occassional experiences which are difficult to understand or explain. Though these things may cause one to believe in God they don't answer any questions or explain anything.
