Steve: What a great Mom. I was in the "academic" stream in high school, and took five years of Latin. Typing and shop was for the "technical" crowd.

After starting my own computer company in 1974, I spend every day typing on the computer with two fingers (and at night too with SI). I haven't used my Latin in years. The only expression I remember is "Noli urinum contra ventum".

I tried to learn "touch" typing 10 years ago, but by then I was SO fast with two fingers, that it would have been too long to get up to speed. The only problem is a stiff neck I get, typing and looking up to the screen to see if I hit the right key.

My two boys took typing in high school, and thank me now.
