Where did you get this motto from From Excite@Home. I did not mean to imply it was shown in that article. Actually you are right, Bells comments leaned in the opposite direction. If you read the Excite@Home PR below it *still* doesnt say they what "All band All device" means , so it is really more assumption on my part reinforced by the fact they are willing to use DSL for @work. *****home.net A Global Media Network "All Band, All Device, All the Time" Excite@Home will redefine the Internet as a medium by combining compelling Internet content with the powerful distribution platform of broadband. The new company will give consumers choice in how they access information over various communications devices such as a pager, PC, or TV, and how they organize and personalize content. The company will extend many of these services to the work environment, where the percentage of high-speed Internet connectivity is highest. These services will accelerate and lower the cost of broadband adoption by exposing the millions of Excite narrowband users to the benefits of a media experience on a broadband platform. The new company remains committed to an open access environment to allow consumers to find any Web content they want with a single click. **** Note "cable" is never mentioned. Note also the choice of phrase "open access" and the definition they give of it.How did you like the casual way around the congestion problem? By citing the backbone upgrade by T, they rationalize their way out of any future congestion? But the problem is not in the backbone or in the core. It's in the last black-coaxial mile, and in the RF channel plan at the head end. I guess Bell is presidential material after all. [many many nuances to that statment intended, figure them out yourself ;-)] The purpose is to convey confidence that they will get the job done. It doesnt matter that it will cost money and engineering effort to resegment the nodes and add additional channels and also impose limitations on the consumer against "abuse". What matters is that the job can be done all in all. It is technically feasible. At least thats what it appears to me as long as ATHM keeps growing at a controlled pace of less than 3x growth in the number of customers per year. AND as long as they dont get blown away wasting time with the "open" access issues. Eric
