Into the mountains I traveled until I reached the peak that had come to me in a vision. It stood high above the valley and the city, looking down upon them from its place of solitude. There had been no doubt that I would reach here. I had seen the rock, large and flat, on which I now stood. I could not see the valley nor city below for they were veiled in fog, thick and unrevealing. The cold bit into my skin. The wind tore at my clothes and screamed in my ears, yet my mind was silent and my heart still, for I had reached my vision. I need reach no further. I felt the presence with comfort and strength. I took a breath, cold and stinging, and closed my eyes, unafraid.

Why exactly should I believe that this deity is any more
reliable?

If you can't, you shoudn't.

Ask me why I should be in love with my wife. I can't tell you. I just am. And I can't be otherwise.

Personally, I believe in God because I have experienced him/her/it/them and I can't do otherwise. "Here I stand, I can do no other."

But am not going to tell you whether or that you should believe, or how if you choose to. You will notice that I have NEVER on this thread or anywhere else tried to impose my beliefs on others or tell people why they should believe or said my beliefs are more true or valid than theirs. (I leave that to CL, AA, etc. <g>)

Either you will have a St. Paul type conversion (to whatever belief, not just Christianity), or you won't. If you do, we will have something valuable to talk about which those who have not can simply not understand. Not meaning to be exclusive, or pretend to be superior; just that those who have never been in love simply can't understand what love is.
