Ticker, you are right, I mispoke. I had the number of 0's correct, but misspoke in the text. VLNC would represent approximately 2 hundreths of 1% of the index (actually about 17 1000ths).

Assuming there is $20 billion of institutional money in index funds tracking the Russell 2000, that would result in about $3.4 million of institutional buying of VLNC after they were added to the index. But I have no idea whether $20 billion is a good number.

I was listening to Bob Brinker today and he said one reason the internut stocks like CGMI are getting hit right now (besides the fact they are ridiculously overvalued) is that many of them will be dumped from the Russell 2000 (because they are now too large to be included). Well that money will be going into the stocks being added to the index.
