So, if the jury liked the look of the young man who was instructed by his lawyer to clean up, and who had mommy and daddy bring him a nice Brooks Brothers suit, and who had a couple of friends take the stand to say how unlikely it seemed that he could have done it, 'cause he was an all- around swell guy, they should let him off, in the face of clear evidence that he had sexually assaulted someone, on the theory that it was an aberration, and jail time would keep him out of Princeton... But if they dislike the look of a hardened kid from the 'hood, who is probably going nowhere in life, and anyway doesn't know how to dress or comport himself in court, and whose mom couldn't afford Brooks Brothers if her life depended on it, and whose legal- aid lawyer is satisfied if he doesn't have an outburst in the courtroom, but he was caught with a kilo of weed, they should nail his ass?...No thanks, the courts are too fraught with elementary unfairness as it is...
