Actually, dear Edwarda, I never asked "why me?" I always thought about how much worse it would be to have something like cancer, and how fortunate I was that that I had a comfortable bed, and analgesic drugs, and my family was there to help me. I did sometimes say that I wanted it to stop, and that I was tired of hurting, and of course I always asked God to please make it stop, but that's about it for the complaints.

No, I am well aware that others have suffered, and are suffering, unimaginable pain. The thing that makes me mad is that so much of the time the suffering at the hands of other human beings. Or else, if they wanted to, other human beings could relieve the pain, but won't.

If everyone who was hungry was fed,

if everyone who was naked was clothed,

if everyone who was cold and wet was given shelter,

if everyone who was ill was given medical care,

if everyone who was dying of some painful disease was given analgesia,

if everyone who was lonely was given comfort,

if everyone who was insane was given a safe haven,

who would be left to suffer?

How can we blame God because these people suffer?
