I am an AOL holder with $126 shares but I only bought half the position I plan to build since I knew I might be buying the rest at $76 or $176.

I think AOL is an important Core Holding. I also think it could go down further, possibly for several months. I am holding what I have because it is small enough not to hurt much.

If I had a lot of shares and my account was taking a major beating I would lighten up until I felt comfortable. The many times I have dumped losing stocks, only a few turned around and went up. Those hurt but not as much as holding losers as they go lower.

Look at it this way, the more AOL drops, the more this is a high-risk investment (volatility is going up). So it makes sense to hold a smaller position than you would have in a more stable stock. I would never put 10% of my portfolio in one Internut. But I have more than that in BRKB.

Trader J has a good piece on this topic on tigerinvestor.com from June 10. I will have a new article up there today or tomorrow on "What You Know", a case study in DD.
