Aren't the majority of Cox's and Adelphia's stock owned by the founding families? Comcast's has that special B class stock that gives the founding family voting control. But the majority of the shares are publicly traded, and the publicly traded shares have the same ownership rights as the Class B and far outnumber the B shares. So the founding family could be visited with a world of legal pain if they did not live up to their "fudiciary" responsibilites. Earlier in the thread, someone mentioned that this fact about Comcast made them a more attractive takeover candidate.

And so many of these fiberoptic/ long distance companies are desperate for the "last mile" access that cable could provide. Taking over Comcast would be chump change compared to taking over U.S. West.

I feel like an idiot thinking the CMCSA shares were the only shares outstanding. But with their voting rights they have to be more valuable. Serendipity reins.

Comcast non cable properties are bewildering. Does anyone have an assessment of how much these properties alone would go for?

You see AT&T and Comcast dominating? What about Time Warner Cable, currently #2 I believe?
