I think Ebay will survive and Amzn will eventually (six months) scale back to a specialized bookis and music auction site to save face. However, even as a regular user, can you imagine a scenario in which Ebay's volume and pricing increase to the point where its profits justify its market capitalization??

But also let me point out another tell-tale sign that this is not a professional organization. The color coding of current high bidder. When I was implementing a user interface for a product, we hired a professional team to design the appearance. They quickly pointed out that there are many people with various degrees of color blindness. I am just amazed that eBay uses the distinction between green and red as the only way to convey specific information. Of course as a new eBay user, I may be showing my own ignorance rather than theirs.
