I agree. The conspiracy theorists are trying to avoid a reality which is that there is an over abundance of gold. Most of all the gold ever mined is still around. Gold producers could stop producing and there would not be a lack of supply.

Simple fact: there is much more supply than demand.

People can talk about conspiracies all they want, it won't change the economics. More supply than demand spells weak prices.

Gold is no longer a refuge in times of crisis, and this for quite a number of years now. Some have been predicting a short covering spree for years now. Don't hold your breaths!
