James, Unlike Colorado, immigrants are welcomed in Texas. Most from the Upper Midwest usually come from Michigan or Ohio. Both Houston and Dallas have unemployment rates around 2.5%- huge high tech corridor in Austin, Texas Companies like Dell and Compaq Computer, Telcom Corridor in Dallas, Nortel for e.g has an unbelievable spread of buildings that go on for blocks along I-45 in Dallas, as does Cisco, etc....the second most active port in North America in Houston, also the world oil capital- economies are exploding, no personal or corporate income taxes- what you make is what you keep.... and wait 'til oil and natural gas rev up again.

Switching gears and getting back to the subject, the killing in Kosovo has only begun. I fear that we are "in deep" in the Balkans now, especially as the Russian Military awakens from its comatose slumber. Most people are too young to remember the Yugoslavian terrorist waves in the late 70's in the USA (Croatian Nationalists)- let's hope that the Serbs Nationalist do not act similarly to the Croatian Nationalists, and also do not gain access to nuclear weapons. in Krajina, Slavonia, and Kosovo, Serbia has been unfairly stripped of large portions of its territories- You can imagine how this will play with Serbian Nationalists...

So IMO what we have in the Serb withdrawal is just one move in along-running game. The key here to realize is that the Serbs do not see themselves as defeated, but simply having chosen to quit fighting for the time being....

Re: real Texans

You better believe there are! When you were here, you must have been in the inner-city or highly urban areas. The Chicagoans and many other yankees have not yet learned how to live except on top of each other.(no sexual pun intended.)

Some, like D. Long, have learned our way of living uncrowded lives, and we appreciate his sort of transplant. I might ask you, and especially people like gator, if Texas and Texans are so bad, why do so many northerners want to move here? It wouldn't make us mad if they decided to stay where they were.
