Our government is going to be rich ...

Suppose there is a severe market downturn at the turn of the millenium and lots of people sell .. has anyone considered how much money is going to flow into the government in 2000 via short/long-term capital gains taxes?

The Predicted Impact Of The Year 2000 Problem In The United States

<< A survey was sent via e-mail to the notification list of the Washington D.C. Year 2000 Group (over 2000 e-mail addresses) in February of 1999. The survey asked the recipients to predict the impact of the Year 2000 problem within the United States upon five different sectors—the economy, business, infrastructure, society, and government—on an escalating scale of 0 to 10, with definitions given for each value within a given sector. The respondents were also asked to identify their type of organization (government, corporate, military, etc.) from a given list, their primary Y2K activity, and the duration of their Y2K experience. The respondents could add optional comments. The survey was anonymous ... more ... >>

This two-part report documents this evidence. (You are now reading part 1. Check back with Y2KNEWSWIRE.COM later in the week for part two.)

One of the primary arguments against preparing for Y2K has been this one: if the programmers aren't buying food, the theory goes, they must know something we don't. Therefore, Y2K must be no big deal ... more ... >>

Just thought of something,Has anyone in the Y2k fix industry checked into fuel injection systems for large diesel trucks? these systems are electronic, and know there is(or at least was) a connection to an electronic tach. on some (many?) fuel management systems. Or perhaps just embeded chip problems in the "tattle tale tach", DOT tracking systems. If the diesel trucks won't work, or DOT must stop each tractor-trailer Vs using tracking systems.......could be ugly.
