Haiti (and Somalia) started with good intentions too. They were to be a showcase of US humanitarian diplomacy. Unfortunately, changing mentalities, even in small and weak countries cannot be achieved overnight. Cultural factors cannot be changed or erased, even when the US applies all its might to such undertakings. There are no easy, simple or quick solutions. Peace, stability and democracy (especially US style) cannot be imposed. Change has to be nurtured from within, taking the historic and cultural dimensions into account.
