IMO what galvanized QWST to go for USW was not just the GBLX bid but also rumblings that Deutsche Telekom might be eyeing the U.S. market in the wake of its failed bid for Telecom Italia. The premium QWST is paying for USW is designed both to crush the GBLX bid and to block DT and others from entering the ring. That QWST is headquartered in Denver is an intangible that can only help.

I think GBLX went after FRO because they were the only co. with major fiber assets who was not dominated by a single controlling shareholder, and therefore that GBLX could control. I interpret QWST's move for FRO as a defensive move intended more to thwart GBLX than to aid QWST.

<<<< GBLX's board gotta be happy as a pig in shit! >>

GBLX will be perceived as a weakling if they also lose FRO.

Don't be surprised if GBLX stagnates because of perception they will have to respond with a higher bid.
