OT - car buying over the web.

I had one experience buying a car off the web in January of 1998. It went exactly as advertised, and I ordered and was delivered a Ford Ranger at invoice plus 0. Absolutely no hassle. Greatest thing since sliced bread.

Last week I tried the same thing again thru the MSFT affiliated buying service. This time it was "can't give you a hard number now, but it will be north of 3% over invoice", "gosh I don't know, I'll have to talk to my manager about that, he makes the decision on prices" - in other words exactly the same BS as if I'd walked on the lot.

Difference may be that my first experience was with a dealership in Florida, whereas this one was in New England. I'll try again with the Florida dealer, just to see if it delivers the same experience as it did last year.
