DRDRAM will be featured in Coppermine-based systems. When Coppermine is released, you can bet that the fastest speed grade will cost $750, and there will be more than just a $124 premium over the next highest speed grade. Each speed grade buys you between 5% to 10% additional performance.

Yep, I'm sure Intel wants to shoot itself in the foot by releasing systems with a higher price tag and a performance penalty. Don't you think Intel would have gone with its exit strategy a long time ago if they found that DRDRAM provides no performance advantage? But Camino is only three months away, and Barrett says Intel remains committed to DRDRAM.

You can decide to trust Intel, or to assume that the management is smoking pot. (Given Intel's strict anti-drug policy in the workplace, the latter would be a very remote possibility.)
