RE: <Box makers were given a near identical choice in February - AMD offered "cheap" Kmart 63's and Intel offered expensive Pentium IIIs.>

Well, I posted a while ago that box makers thought K63 would be viewed by consumers as just a K6 with no higher frequency so they just stuck with the even cheaper K62 for the non-Intel-Inside market. But if K7 has higher frequency and higher performance and no drdram minefield then I expect it is a whole different story. I just don't think that Intel can afford drdram baggage during this challenge.

<Paul - re: The box makers overwhelmingly chose Pentium IIIs over the cheaper Kmart 63's - which have since become EVEN MUCH CHEAPER - yet the Pentium III PCs are ubiquitous and the Kmart 63's are MIA.>

Paul,

I will bet you one thousand dollars that there will be more x86 boxes shipped with PC100/133 than with RDRAM in Q4, 1999. Do you take the bet? You and me place one grand into an escrow company of your choice.

Kap.

MHz offerings and availability has hurt the K6-3.
