To all: I work in the internet deployment business and have the pleasure of hearing a number of sales pitches from a variety of vendors regarding the storage products that large scale sites would leverage. (I am also long ancor, emc and sun, dumped compaq but I can't hold everything). Anyway, I have only heard one pitch where SANs were mentioned (although they are mentioned as coming but really targeted at the hosting centers and data centers) and the focus has always been on functionality of the storage software, not the hardware. I am wondering were each of these vendors is targeting? What features and market is Sun, HDS, IBM actually pushing from the software side?

For instance, EMC will never be the low cost provider thus their target market is the high-end 7X24 sites. I would be surprised if Compaq, Dell and HP (NT centric vendors) would not go low cost on the switches? Any thoughts?
