Good question.

On low-end consumer devices, I'm seeing lots of non-Intel chips, i.e. Hitachi, etc.

I believe Intel didn't have a low-end chip until it picked up Dec's StrongARM technology? Moving forward, design wins take a bit of time to win/transition.

If you're thinking mid-range, then Timna will be Intel's chip.

Why do you ask?

Nearly every FORD automobile manufactured between 1985 and at least 1995 contained several Intel embedded controllers for their engine and emission controls.
