Shane,

you are forgetting a third item: LAN. It used to be a positive number in the equation. The fab was built in order to build LAN chips plus new PCOAC.

Cyrix was purchased with the PCOAC in mind, and in order to justify expense for the fab / process development.

The pieces started to fall apart when NSM lost LAN business. Soon after that, NSM realized that their process technology was too far behind Intel and even AMD to keep competing with them. With LAN business gone, and with the fab not being able to produce competitive chips we got to where we are now.
