Mark, a lot of news today. One thing about the last article,I am wondering who is going to be supplying the HDTV video servers. From the action lately, and news from SEAC they could be the one. They have deals with NBC and CBS,that company is looking good, but it has had a tremendous run. I only found out about them when they did the VOD demo with HLIT in late May. I have not had enough time to look into everything.
Here is some big news!

CNN Newsource Chooses CyberStream From Harmonic Data Systems
CyberStream To Support The Delivery Of Daily Video News Feeds And Video Files Via Satellite To CNN Newsource Affiliates
CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 14, 1999--Harmonic Data Systems Ltd. (HDS), a subsidiary of Harmonic Inc. (Nasdaq:HLIT - news), today announced that CNN Newsource, the world's most extensive syndicated news service, has chosen the CyberStream(TM) end-to-end system to streamline its existing satellite Newsource On Demand news feed service to its affiliates.

Cyberstream's high-speed delivery of data via satellite provides an even more reliable method for affiliates to browse the CNN video news feeds at a low resolution.

CNN Newsource purchased the CyberStream Data Gateway TRX100, which will be installed at its uplink facility in Atlanta, and CyberStream(TM) SAT1 PC/PCI satellite receiver cards for the affiliates' PCs.

''CNN Newsource on Demand service must provide immediacy and reliability to our customers,'' said Todd Fantz, Supervising Director of Technology, CNN Headline News. ''We chose CyberStream for the performance, flexibility and expandability of the system.''

''As video streaming over IP can only be effectively performed via satellite, CyberStream services the needs of broadcasters who require a reliable high speed delivery of MPEG files,'' said David Price, Harmonic Data Systems vice president of business development. ''CyberStream's broadband multicast capability is the ideal platform to distribute timely news clips to multiple locations.''

In addition to this deployment, CyberSteam is being used worldwide in a variety of data-over-satellite applications. CyberStream users include Tele-2 in Sweden, Infoline in South Africa, and Europe Online's ''Internet in the Sky'. (See www.harmonicdata.com for further information).

Mark et all, two other small stories.

Company Press Release
First Austrian Cable Operator to Adopt Harmonic's Transend Complete Digital Headend System
Kabelsignal Uses a TRANsend Digital Headend to Relay International Channels
CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 14, 1999--Harmonic Inc. (Nasdaq:HLIT - news) today announced that Kabelsignal, one of Austria's leading cable operators, is the first cable operator in Austria to choose Harmonic's TRANsend(TM) digital headend to create customized channel line-ups to target Austria's foreign language community.

Using the TRANsend digital headend, Kabelsignal will be able to digitally receive seven television services from different satellite transponders, encode locally originated video into MPEG-2 streams and reassemble them into their broadcast signal - saving large amounts of bandwidth due to the digital compression, without compromising the quality in transmission.

''When we wanted to meet the needs of our foreign language community, we needed a cost effective solution that would easily manage our channel line-ups,'' said Dr. Karl Karner, chairman, Kabelsignal. ''We have found that TRANsend suits our requirements perfectly, and gives us the flexibility we require as the market for digital cable develops.''

All encoding, multiplexing and QAM-modulation of the content will be via the TRANsend digital headend, with the modulated channel line-up then transmitted over the existing hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC) network to set-top boxes. Installing the TRANsend products will make Kabelsignal the first cable operator in Austria to create a customized digital TV service.

''This TRANsend installation in Austria will be a significant move for Harmonic into the European digital market,'' said Jan Van Hoecke, European general manager, Harmonic Inc. ''Enabling European cable operators to easily customize program line-ups and optimize their bandwidth using TRANsend gives them an advantage when competing for subscribers in Europe's highly competitive broadband market.''
And a second small story, the significant part of this is this company is funded by AT&T ventures.

Video Networks Chooses CyberStream From Harmonic Data Systems to Deliver High Speed Electronic Media
CyberStream Provides Turnkey Media Transport Solution
CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 14, 1999--At this year's Cable '99 Harmonic Data Systems Ltd. (HDS), a subsidiary of Harmonic Inc. (Nasdaq:HLIT - news), is announcing that Video Networks Inc. (VNI), a provider of media management solutions, has chosen the CyberStream(TM) end-to-end system to provide high-speed electronic media delivery of MPEG-2 video for VNI's file distribution service.

CyberStream's high-speed delivery of data via satellite will support the infrastructure of VNI's turnkey media transport solution for cable operators and broadcasters such as NBC.

VNI will integrate the CyberStream end-to-end system with its IP-based data network and reliable media transport system to efficiently distribute electronic media to one or many recipients. The VNI deployment of CyberStream will also be supplied with HDS's network management software applications including Pro$tream(TM), ProView(TM), and Log-in Management for dynamic IP support.

''VNI's network management system has been designed to support all of our service offerings through the management of both hardware components and applications software. The CyberStream system will play an important role in our total network management solution.''

Mark, I believe in general the move to HDTV will be good for HLIT. The reason is cable cos need to upgrade to digital by 2008 or so, and HLIT has the right product in the Transend transmitter. It's a bonus for them and HLIT that this product also serves as the foundation for offering lots of interactive services other than HDTV.

Lots of good news lately. I've been too busy with work to really soak it all up. Overall, I'm pleased with the broadening of the customer base and the different uses people are finding for HLIT products.
