BBK WELTEKE: GOLD SALES FOR DEBT RELIEF COULD CAUSE PROBLEMS
Frankfurt--Jun 13--A weak euro in the long-term could raise the danger of
inflation, Bundesbank President-designate Ernst Welteke said in an interview
with German radio to be broadcast today. He added gold sales to raise funds to
provide debt relief could hit poorer gold-producing countries. (Story .10958)

LBMA SAYS MAY GOLD TURNOVER UP AT 32.6 MLN OZS IN VOLATILE MKT
London--Apr 11--The London Bullion Market Association said today that average
daily cleared turnover for gold in May rose to 32.6 million ounces, up a third
from 25.2 million in April and equaling the levels of May 1997 and 1998. The
value of gold turnover in May rose to US $9 billion from $7.1 billion in April.
A new average-price low of $276.442 per ounce was offset by a higher level of
ounces transferred--1,107, up from 898 in April but down a little on 1,262 in
May 1998. (Story .13504)
