Entrust and Intel in product development and marketing agreement

Entrust Technologies Announces Business and Technical Agreement with Intel Corp.:Collaborative Product Development and Marketing Agreement to Create and Deliver Enhanced and Trusted PKI Platforms
ORLANDO, FLORIDA--Entrust SecureSummit(tm) '99 -- Entrust(r) Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: ENTU - news), a global leader for solutions that bring trust to e-business, has announced that it will work with Intel Corporation [Nasdaq:INTC - news], the world's largest chip maker, to build, extend and enhance trusted e-business with public-key based security across their current and upcoming software and hardware solutions.

The two companies will initially focus on the integration of Intel's platform security features with Entrust Technologies' product family of PKI, business and toolkit solutions. Future goals include joint work on new security services that will enable e-business opportunities for the Internet, embedded computing, the desktop and the enterprise as well as new security extensions and enhancements for transactional security, Virtual Private Networks, and policy and privilege management. A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed and the companies anticipate formalizing the agreement within the next sixty (60) days.

''Intel is leading the industry in delivering security capabilities in the platform, and working closely with leaders of security solutions to provide benefits to our customers. The Intel Random Number Generator is one in a series of security building blocks we're implementing,'' said Michael Glancy, general manager, Platform Security Division at Intel Corporation. ''We look forward to continuing this relationship with Entrust and delivering the security solutions necessary to reach our vision of a billion trusted, connected computers.''

''With the growth of e-business sites predicted to outpace the growth of Web sites by 2001 and Internet commerce doubling annually, security-enhanced applications are necessary to sustain and support this new age of electronic business,'' said John Ryan, president and chief executive officer, Entrust Technologies Inc. ''By harnessing the power of Intel's platform security features in conjunction with the Entrust product family, we now have the ability to jointly drive the adoption, incorporation and acceleration of enhanced trust services for e-business.''

Entrust Technologies' family of PKI, toolkits and business solutions will support the hardware-based Intel(r) Random Number Generator (RNG) which is included in the Intel(r) 810 Chipset and will be included in all future Intel 8xx series chipsets. The first Entrust solution to support Intel's platform security features will be Entrust/PKI 5.0, which is expected to be released commercially in Q4, 1999.

Entrust and SET in Europe...

Company Press Release
Entrust/PKI(tm) Underpins Launch of Europe's Largest SET Project
ORLANDO, FLORIDA--Entrust SecureSummit(tm) '99 -- Entrust(r) Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: ENTU - news), the global leader for solutions that bring trust to e-business, announced today that Dutch consumers will be the first in Europe to use debit cards for secure shopping over the Internet when a new service goes live this week.

Operated by Interpay, a cooperative owned by Holland's banks, the I-Pay with SET system uses an enhanced version of the international SET (Secure Electronic Transaction) protocol to authenticate Internet merchants and customers to each other, and to protect both debit and credit card numbers. The standard protocol supports only credit cards.

The new payment system, which is enabled by public-key infrastructure (PKI) security technology provided by Entrust Technologies, is expected to have as many as two million users by the end of 2000. Participating merchants will advertise on a special Web site.

The Entrust product family is a complete set of enterprise digital security products and toolkits for e-business. It is already the public-key security infrastructure of choice for S.W.I.F.T., Royal Bank of Scotland, Scotiabank, J.P. Morgan, the Salomon Smith Barney unit of Citigroup and over 100 other financial services institutions.

''In Entrust/PKI we have bought a strategic security foundation for Interpay whose capabilities go way beyond SET,'' says the organization's head of new business development, Fred Stolk. ''I-Pay with SET is only the first of a number of exciting products we will be launching for the benefit of our member banks and their customers over the coming months.''

''Generically, SET had a patchy start in Europe, but we believe that by supporting both debit and credit card transactions, Interpay is going to be a real catalyst for growth. Merchants in 18 European countries are already SET-enabled and we're seeing real interest from retailers and financial services institutions in what we are doing here.''

Louis-Noel Joly, CEO of Europay International, whose Maestro and Eurocard-MasterCard are widely used throughout mainland Europe, agrees: ''This unique initiative is certain to be followed by other European countries. At Europay, we have a long-standing commitment to smart cards and SET. The solutions being deployed here combines the strengths of both.''

Entrust Technologies' SET solution, Entrust/CommerceCA 4.1, is the first commercial product to support both credit cards and smart debit cards. Using an extended version of the recently ratified SET 1.0 protocol, it allows the automated issue and management of digital SET certificates that authenticate merchants and their customers, and the cryptographic keys that encrypt customers' credit and debit card numbers.

The core Entrust/PKI9(tm) product set, still the only PKI to be certified to the new international Common Criteria IT security standard, combines digital certificate isssuing capabilities with full-strength encryption, digital signature and completely automated key and certificate lifecycle management.

Teamed with a growing range of applications by third-party developers, Entrust/PKI meets a spectrum of business needs from secure desktops, VPNs, closed Web groups and Single-Sign-On to secure ERP and e-commerce systems involving suppliers and even customers.

New access control product to be released...

Entrust(r) Technologies Expands E-Business Portfolio with Authorization Solution for Web-based Transactions
ORLANDO, FLORIDA--Entrust/SecureControl(tm) to Provide Privilege Management Capabilities for Organizations to Authorize Access to Web Sites and Data

Entrust SecureSummit(tm) '99 -- Entrust(r) Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: ENTU - news), the global leader for solutions that bring trust to e-business, is adding to its portfolio of e-business products and services with the introduction of Entrust/SecureControl(tm) which delivers secure, fine-grained authorization to customers for Web-based transactions and access to information.

Authorization tools are important for organizations that wish to reduce costs by establishing multi-purpose Web sites for secure business-to-consumer or business-to-business transactions. They enable a consistent enterprise wide security policy to be defined specifying the privileges users have and manage the user's access to data after they have been authenticated to a Web site or corporate network.

Based on technology licensed from San Francisco-based Securant Technologies Inc., Entrust/SecureControl(tm) will be integrated with Entrust/PKI(tm), the company's managed PKI solution that combines best-in-class security, flexibility and low cost for enabling organizations to conduct trusted e-business with customers, suppliers and employees. The integration provides Entrust/SecureControl customers with the automatic and transparent key and certificate lifecycle management they have come to rely on as a core component of a real-world PKI solution.

The addition of an integrated Web authorization solution to Entrust Technologies product portfolio will provide customers with a scalable and highly secure solution for confidentiality, authentication and authorization. Entrust Technologies is the first PKI vendor to introduce such a solution for customers.

''Entrust/SecureControl represents a single source, low risk, well-integrated solution for Web-based transaction authorization,'' said John Ryan, president and chief executive officer, Entrust Technologies Inc. ''Our solution enables one-to-one Web marketing for customers by providing a framework for them to engage in e-business transactions. Organizations require authorization controls for Web-based activities such as launching a Web site for their customers to securely check their accumulation of travel points or for their suppliers to securely check their account status.''

Entrust/SecureControl is a role-and-rule-based authorization solution built on a JAVA/CORBA architecture which enables Web sites to increase scalability to millions of users by removing the requirement for manually maintaining Access Control Lists (ACLs) at each Web Server. The solution enables the definition of a consistent security policy that specifies privileges users have and their access to data after having been authenticated to a Web site. A product fact sheet detailing core features, Entrust/PKI software integration, operational diagram and product specifications may be accessed directly from entrust.com.

Entrust/SecureControl is intended to offer customers increased choice for authorization and the solution will complement Entrust Technologies' partner offerings such as IntraVerse from Dascom, Inc. or NetCrusader from Gradient Technologies Inc.

''Businesses are recognizing that authorization infrastructure is key to a successful e-commerce initiative, and we are pleased to see that Entrust is providing web access control with Entrust/SecureControl,'' said Jim Curtin, DASCOM President and CEO. ''DASCOM IntraVerse provides an enterprise portal that integrates multiple point solutions, including Entrust/SecureControl, into a comprehensive authorization framework, providing authorization management for Web, CORBA, and legacy applications.''

''Gradient has highlighted for years the central importance of authorization and access management for high-end e-business,'' said Michael Jannery, vice president of marketing, Gradient Technologies. ''This first offering of authorization for web content by Entrust Technologies acknowledges its importance. Entrust and Gradient have provided PKI-based authorization solutions to joint customers for over two years.

Pricing and Availability

Entrust/SecureControl will be available direct from Entrust Technologies and its channel partners in Q3 1999. Pricing will be announced closer to the commercial ship date.
