That is a good story, and it is events like that which led to my downfall. I have finally persuaded my husband to prevent me from attending Library Book Fairs, using force, if need be. One of the women's colleges, Brandeis, maybe, just stopped having Book Fairs in D.C., because of a lack of volunteers. They had really top quality books. I think my favorite "score" from a book fair was two original Mutt&Jeff cartoon books, and then there is "The Raven," illustrated by Dore. These sit on my shelves, and I never look at them, so why did I buy them? Just to have. And that is why I don't go to book fairs anymore.

I am not really a collector, at heart. A true collector gets pleasure out of owning things. My old boyfriend in New Orleans is a true collector, and I used to collect things because he did. But I really only want books to read them, and Ish is right, the library is a great place to get them from, and bring them back, and let them take care of the books. Except for reference books, and things you will use over and over again, like children's books.
