Welcome to Telcom Rate Talk.

You can also get a flat calling plan for Band A (8 miles) Band B (8.1-15 miles) and Banc C (everything else in the lata) for like 10 bucks a month.

The bells screwed up a few years ago by offering CLECs recriprical (sp) compensation on phone calls that terminated on CLEC numbers. What that means is when you place a call to your ISP, Ameritech routes the call through their phone switches into a CLEC's network and gives the CLEC a few pennies each minute for the time that the dialer is connected. This was before the internet was big, so they got blindsighted by companies like MFS and FOCAL who will just about give away the T-1 lines into a ISP's office so they can get the money that Ameritech pays per minute while people browse on the web for 5 hours a day.

What does this have to do with anything? I dunno.
