<< The problem that JBL, Les, Ish, Neocon, and me have is that we have all read our history books. >>

Reading doesn't equate with understanding. While we must learn from history, noone will succeed by always looking backward instead of forward.

<< Everything we have seen from history indicates that this mission
will fail to achieve lasting peace.

The chances for a lasting peace in Kosovo are probably similar to the chances in Bosnia.

<< If you can put a UN trooper on every street corner on the planet, you can have your "peace". >>

Well...... NATO/UN implementation has worked fairly well in Bosnia. I guess Bosnia's not in the history books yet. <g>

<< The problem is that every nation that has tried this has been doomed to failure. >>

You are throwing in the towel. Throwing in the towel has always been doomed to failure. <g>

You act as if this entire situation was caused by NATO. NATO reacted to an attempt by the Serbs to commit genocide in Kosovo. The cards have been dealt, and NATO has it's hand. NATO MUST play it's cards. What would you have done, as leader(s) of the free world? Would you have looked the other way while the Kosovars were slaughtered?

What would you do now, run and hide and let the Serbs have another chance at the Kosovo Albanians? What are the options? You think that NATO running away from Kosovo is an option?

Go back to reading your history books. Hindsight is always more accurate than analysis of current events.<g>
