Apple/3dfx and AGP 4x - why isn't everyone eating crow?

Where are all the apologies from the hardware reviewers that talked about how important AGP 4x is and how 3dfx was making a big mistake not shipping a 4x-compliant part? It looks like 3dfx was the smartest of the crowd, not wasting resources rushing an unused feature to market. Typical media - find a scapegoat and then don't apologize when you're wrong.

On a bizarre but possibly relevant tangent, I feel like 3dfx is the "Apple" of the 3d chip market:

- 3dfx can run Glide but other chips can't; Apple can read PC data but not vice versa (this is what sickens me the most about Windows).
- 3dfx consistently puts out quality, leading-edge products but keeps getting dissed by the uninformed masses; Apple systems have proven to perform much faster than PCs but still don't enjoy widespread acceptance.
- 3dfx bought STBI for vertical integration; Apple bought Motorola for similar reasons.
- 3dfx stock is a laggard with a history of tantalizing runups; ditto for Apple.
- 3dfx fans are tenacious and loyal; Apple fans are of the same blood.

Anyone else seeing any parallels here? If anyone else is interested I'd enjoy seeing a deeper comparison between 3dfx now and Apple circa 1992.

Hey view, read your warranty. The thing has a lifetime warranty! All new video cards get too hot to touch. Yours isn't going to fail any sooner than the others. If it does TDFX will replace it.
