IBM puts their R&D budget to work winning chess matches, whereas Intel builds supercomputers to perform complex nuclear weapons simulations. Just a difference in engineering philosophy, I guess. :-)

Re: Is that the 9000+ Pentium Pro one, or has it been upgraded to Xeon?

I'll have to defer on this question until a press release is issued by either Intel or the DOE.
